About the Atmospheric vent high input (RG250H / RG255H / RG275H / RG2100H)

The high-input family covers the recovery gap in Bradford White's Canadian atmospheric range. Where the standard Defender tanks run 27,000 to 50,000 BTU/h, these units step up to 65,000 to 80,000 BTU/h, so the 75 and 100 US gallon models can deliver first-hour ratings of roughly 135 and 157 US gallons. Every model also carries factory 3/4 in side connections listed for space heating, which lets a single atmospheric tank serve both potable water and a hydronic zone in the same home.

Only the RG250H6N carries the Defender Safety System flammable-vapour-ignition-resistant design; the Canadian sheet notes the Defender bullet as applying to that model only. The larger RG255H, RG275H and RG2100H units omit FVIR, use ANSI Z21.10.3 certification (the RG250H6N is Z21.10.1), and add a hand-hole cleanout on the 100 US gallon model. An ASSE-approved thermostatic mixing valve ships with the RG255H6N.

All four models draw combustion air from the room, vent by natural draft through a 4 in draft hood and need no external electricity. UEF ratings run 0.63 down to 0.57 as volume grows; none are ENERGY STAR certified. Whether CANRO stocks a given model for a job is confirmed at consultation.

Highlights

  • 65,000–80,000 BTU/h inputs with recovery from 265 to 322 L/h at a 50 °C rise
  • Side 3/4 in tappings for space-heating applications (potable and space heating listed)
  • 4 in "Snap Lock" draft diverter; no external electricity required
  • Defender FVIR system on the RG250H6N only; ANSI Z21.10.3 on the rest
  • Hand-hole cleanout on the RG2100H6N; ASSE mixing valve included with the RG255H6N
  • 6-year tank and parts limited warranty (10-year variants except RG255H6N); no labour coverage

Bradford White's residential warranty document lists a 6-year limited tank warranty and 6-year limited parts warranty for these models (10-year models change the suffix 6 to 10; not available on the RG255H6N). Labour is not covered; removal and reinstallation charges are excluded. Consumable anode rods are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

Can a high-input atmospheric tank also heat the house?

These models are listed for potable water and space heating and carry 3/4 in side connections for a space-heating loop, so a licensed heating contractor can connect a hydronic zone. WaterHeating.ca covers the domestic-hot-water side; the space-heating design is assessed with the boiler work CANRO does.

Do these models need electricity?

No. Like the rest of the atmospheric line they are powered by the pilot's thermopile, so they keep working during a power outage. They still need a chimney or B-vent that accepts a 4 in connection and combustion air from the room.

Are these tanks flammable-vapour resistant?

Only the RG250H6N carries the Defender Safety System FVIR design per the Canadian sheet. The RG255H, RG275H and RG2100H models do not, which matters for storage rooms where solvents or fuel are kept.
