Bradford White RG275H6N in practice
The RG275H6N is the 75-gallon member of the high-input atmospheric family and the middle step between a large residential tank and a commercial-style unit. At 76,000 BTU/h it recovers about 82 US gal/h (310 L/h) at a 50 °C rise and delivers a first-hour rating of 135 US gallons (511 L), comfortably ahead of any standard-input residential tank of any size sold on the Canadian sheet.
Its 26 in (660 mm) jacket and 240 lb (109 kg) shipping weight demand floor space and a clear access route, and the 1 in NPT water connections are larger than a standard tank's 3/4 in. It carries 3/4 in side space-heating connections, is certified to ANSI Z21.10.3, vents by natural draft through a 4 in draft hood and needs no electricity. It does not carry the Defender FVIR system. UEF 0.59 is rated under the DOE high-draw class for tanks above 55 US gallons. Whether CANRO stocks this model for a given job is confirmed at consultation.
Best suited to
- Large households and homes with soaking tubs that outgrew standard 50 and 60 US gal tanks
- Potable plus space-heating applications on one atmospheric unit
- Homes with a big working chimney where a tankless conversion is not wanted
Limitations to know
- 26 in (610 mm) jacket, 240 lb shipping weight and 4 in vent connection need space, access and a suitable chimney
- Does not carry the Defender FVIR flammable-vapour-resistant system
- UEF 0.59 is below ENERGY STAR and is a high-draw rating, not comparable with medium-draw figures
- Warranty excludes labour and anode consumption; anode inspection every 2 years is required

| Specification | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Rated nominal volume | 75 US gal (63 Imp. gal, 284 L) | Canadian sheet C1108. Nominal, not the tested storage volume. |
| Rated (DOE) storage volume | 70 US gal (265 L) | Published on the US sheet 1108 only; not on the Canadian sheet. |

Manuals
Maintenance the manufacturer specifies
- Inspect the anode rod every 2 years and replace when depleted; more often with softened water (manual, Maintenance item 9).
- Operate the T&P relief valve at least once a year to check it lifts and reseats without leaking (item 6).
- Drain about a gallon monthly to remove sediment (item 7); annual inspection by a qualified technician.
- Inspect the vent system at least once a year; check burner flames twice a year (items 10 and 4).

Services
Hot water and scalding
- Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
- Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
- Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.
Official guidance: Government of Canada on water temperature and scalds and HealthLinkBC.
Frequently asked questions
Is the RG275H6N sold in Canada?
Yes. It is listed on Bradford White's Canadian residential gas page and on Canadian spec sheet C1108. Bradford White sells only through wholesalers, so it is supplied and installed by contractors such as CANRO.
How is the RG275H6N different from the RG260T6N?
The RG260T6N is a 60 US gal standard-input (40,000 BTU/h) tank; the RG275H6N stores 75 US gal with a 76,000 BTU/h input, roughly twice the recovery, side space-heating connections and a 26 in jacket.
Is the RG275H6N a Defender FVIR tank?
No. Within the high-input family only the RG250H6N carries the Defender Safety System; the larger high-input models are certified to ANSI Z21.10.3 without it.
Does this model need a bigger gas line?
Almost certainly: 76,000 BTU/h is nearly double a standard tank's 40,000 BTU/h draw. The gas supply line and meter are checked at assessment.
