Bradford White RG230S6N in practice
The RG230S6N is the shortest Defender atmospheric tank on the Canadian sheet: 45 3/4 in (1162 mm) to the top of the heater, about 10 1/2 in shorter than the tall RG230T6N, with a 20 in (508 mm) jacket. It pairs a 30,000 BTU/h natural gas input with a first-hour rating of 49 US gallons (185 L), which suits one or two people whose space, not whose demand, forced the choice of a small short tank.
It vents by natural draft through a 3" or 4" draft hood, draws combustion air from the room and needs no electricity. Unlike the rest of the line it has no optional top temperature-and-pressure valve location. UEF 0.54 is the lowest rating on the Canadian atmospheric sheet and is below ENERGY STAR. Maintenance the manufacturer specifies

Hot water and scalding
- Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
- Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
- Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.
