Giant's Canadian site lists residential gas tanks in four venting families: atmospheric, atmospheric with a motorized damper, power vent and power direct vent. The venting family decides whether a chimney is required or whether side-wall plastic venting applies, which is the first question in any Metro Vancouver replacement. The atmospheric and powered-damper families vent by natural draft into a chimney; the power-vent family draws combustion air from inside the home and forces exhaust outside with a blower; the power-direct-vent family draws combustion air from outside as well, so it suits sealed closets and mechanical rooms.

Power direct vent: UG40, UG50 and UG50-62, with a sealed combustion chamber, zero clearance to combustibles and an optional concentric vent kit.
