Bradford White RG2PV60T6N19 in practice

The RG2PV60T6N19 is the 60-gallon member of the RG2PV power vent family and the model the Canadian sheet marks with CSA P.3-15 certification, the power vent counterpart of the atmospheric RG260T6N's CSA P.3-04 listing. At a 40,000 BTU/h input its first-hour rating of 76 US gallons (288 L) is close to the 50-gallon model's 78, because the extra storage is offset by the taller tank's longer heat-up, so the 60-gallon buys stored headroom rather than a higher first-hour figure.

It is a Defender Safety System flammable-vapour-ignition-resistant tank that vents through 2, 3 or 4 in PVC-family pipe under positive pressure with no chimney required, and needs a 120 VAC, 3.1 A supply. Its UEF 0.70 is published under the DOE high-draw class for tanks above 55 US gallons. The current catalog number ends in 19 (RG2PV60T6N19); the Canadian spec sheet prints the same model as RG2PV60T6N. Whether CANRO stocks this model for a given job is confirmed at consultation.

Best suited to

  • Large households wanting 60 US gal of storage in a power vent form with no chimney
  • Like-for-like replacement of an existing 60 US gal power vent tank
  • Homes with heavy sequential demand where stored headroom matters more than first-hour delivery

Limitations to know

  • Requires a 120 VAC receptacle; no hot water during a power outage
  • First-hour rating trails the 50-gallon RG2PV model despite the larger tank
  • 24 in (610 mm) jacket and 210 lb (95 kg) shipping weight need space and access
  • Warranty excludes labour and anode consumption; anode inspection every 2 years is required

Manuals

Maintenance the manufacturer specifies

  • Inspect the anode rod every 2 years and replace when depleted; more often with softened water (manual, Maintenance item 9).
  • Operate the T&P relief valve at least once a year to check it lifts and reseats without leaking (item 6).
  • Drain about a gallon monthly to remove sediment (item 7); annual inspection by a qualified technician.
  • Inspect the vent system at least once a year; check burner flames twice a year (items 10 and 4).

Services

Hot water and scalding

  1. Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
  2. Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
  3. Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.

Official guidance: Government of Canada on water temperature and scalds and HealthLinkBC.

Frequently asked questions

Is the RG2PV60T6N19 sold in Canada?

Yes. The RG2PV power vent family is listed on Bradford White's Canadian residential gas page and on Canadian spec sheet C1261, which prints the model as RG2PV60T6N. The 19 suffix is the catalog form of the same current unit.

Why is the first-hour rating lower than the 50-gallon model?

Both use the same 40,000 BTU/h input. The taller 60-gallon tank takes longer to bring its stored volume to temperature, so the sheet's one-hour test figure comes out at 76 gallons against the 50-gallon's 78.

Can the RG2PV60T6N19 run on propane?

The propane version is the RG2PV60T6X19 with a 38,000 BTU/h input. Fuel conversion is not a field procedure; order the correct fuel version.
