Bradford White RE2HP8010 in practice

The RE2HP8010 is the 80-gallon flagship of the AeroTherm Series G2, sized for the all-electric home with heavy peaks: an 88 US gallon (333 L) first-hour rating in the factory Hybrid Standard mode at UEF 4.00 per AHRI. Its 26 in (660 mm) jacket and 296 lb (134 kg) shipping weight make access and floor structure part of the specification, and its height to the duct top of 71 in (1803 mm) needs ceiling clearance.

The heat pump runs only in 3–49 °C ambient air and the unit falls back to the elements outside that range. It cools and dehumidifies the room, needs a condensate drain and a 240 V circuit, and its large storage carries the peaks that slow heat-pump recovery cannot. Whether CANRO stocks this model for a given job is confirmed at consultation.

Best suited to

  • Large all-electric homes and households with heavy simultaneous peaks
  • Families replacing an electric tank who want the largest hybrid storage available
  • Homes where the 240 V circuit class and floor space already suit a big tank

Limitations to know

  • Heat pump needs 3–49 °C ambient air; cold garages run on the elements
  • 71 in (1803 mm) overall height and 296 lb (134 kg) shipping weight need clearance and access
  • Requires a condensate drain and a suitable 240 V circuit
  • Higher equipment cost than a resistance electric tank; rebates are verified per household

Manuals

Maintenance the manufacturer specifies

  • Clean the top-mounted washable air filter when the unit alerts; the sheet notes an automatic alert.
  • Inspect the anode rod every 2 years and replace when depleted; more often with softened water.
  • Operate the T&P relief valve at least once a year to check it lifts and reseats without leaking.
  • Check the condensate drain for flow and blockage at least once a year; annual technician inspection.

Hot water and scalding

  1. Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
  2. Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
  3. Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.

Official guidance: Government of Canada on water temperature and scalds and HealthLinkBC.

Frequently asked questions

Is the RE2HP8010 sold in Canada?

Yes. The AeroTherm G2 family is listed on Bradford White's Canadian heat-pump range and on Canadian spec sheet C1903. Bradford White sells only through wholesalers, so it is supplied and installed by contractors such as CANRO.

Is the 80-gallon model worth it over the 65-gallon?

It buys stored headroom, not efficiency: the sheet rates it UEF 4.00 against the 65-gallon's 4.20, with an 88 rather than 82 US gallon first-hour rating. Choose it when the peak, not the rating, demands the volume.

What is the duct on top of the heater?

The G2 is duct-ready without a kit: the top duct can route supply or return air to or from another space, which is how the unit can sit where room air alone is insufficient.
