Bradford White RE250T6

The Bradford White RE250T6 is a 47 US gallon (178 L) tall-form electric storage water heater with two 4,500 W elements, a 64 US gallon first-hour rating and a 63 W standby-loss rating, sold in Canada through wholesale channels. Its slimmer 20 in jacket fits narrow mechanical rooms.

Bradford White RE250T6 in practice

The RE250T6 is the tall member of the 50-class RE2 upright electric pair: 59 in (1499 mm) to the top of the heater in a 20 in (508 mm) jacket, the narrowest of the 50-gallon electrics. Its 64 US gallon (242 L) first-hour rating is five gallons above the short RE250S6, because the taller tank carries more usable stored volume above the heating zone.

It needs no venting, gas line or combustion air, only a dedicated 240 V circuit, and BC's plumbing code sets electric storage thermostats at 60 °C with fixtures limited to 49 °C by a mixing valve. The Canadian sheet rates the model by a 63 W standby loss rather than a UEF. Whether CANRO stocks this model for a given job is confirmed at consultation.

Best suited to

  • Narrow mechanical rooms where the 20 in jacket fits and ceiling height is not a problem
  • Homes and suites without gas service needing a 50-class tank
  • Households of three to four people with a moderate morning peak

Limitations to know

  • Slow recovery: heavy simultaneous peaks can exceed the first-hour rating
  • Requires a dedicated 240 V circuit; no hot water during a power outage
  • 59 in height needs ceiling clearance
  • Warranty excludes labour and anode consumption; anode inspection every 2 years is required

Manuals

Maintenance the manufacturer specifies

  • Inspect the anode rod every 2 years and replace when depleted; more often with softened water.
  • Operate the T&P relief valve at least once a year to check it lifts and reseats without leaking.
  • Drain about a gallon monthly to remove sediment; annual inspection by a qualified technician.
  • Have a technician test the elements and thermostats when heating is slow or the tank runs out early.

Services

Hot water and scalding

  1. Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
  2. Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
  3. Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.

Official guidance: Government of Canada on water temperature and scalds and HealthLinkBC.

Frequently asked questions

Is the RE250T6 sold in Canada?

Yes. It is listed on Bradford White's Canadian electric range and on Canadian spec sheet C1201. Bradford White sells only through wholesalers, so it is supplied and installed by contractors such as CANRO.

Why does the tall form deliver more in the first hour?

Both carry the same nominal volume and elements, but the sheet's tested first-hour figure for the tall form is 64 US gallons against 59 for the short form, a difference of stored geometry rather than heating power.

Can this tank serve a heat-pump upgrade later?

A heat-pump water heater replaces the whole unit on the same location and circuit; current BC rebates for that switch require an existing electric tank. Eligibility is verified for the exact household.
