For a tank, the number is the first-hour rating against the busiest hour; for a tankless unit it is the flow at the winter rise, roughly a 40 °C rise in Metro Vancouver. The tools on this site do the planning arithmetic; the sizing visit confirms the constraints that the arithmetic cannot see, such as the flue condition, gas line size, circuit and vent route.
The output is a model or models with the published ratings that fit, an explanation of the margin, and a free written estimate for the installation.
