Rheem IKONIC SR CRTGH-SR84i vs Rinnai RXP199iN (tankless with built-in recirculation pump)

Both units carry the recirculation pump inside the cabinet, so neither needs a separately mounted pump or a pump cable for a return loop; that is the feature they share and the reason to compare them. The Rinnai RXP199iN is the built-in-pump variant of the RX199iN, with Wi-Fi control and an input range of 15,000 to 199,000 BTU/h. The Rheem IKONIC SR CRTGH-SR84i is the built-in-pump variant of the IKONIC line, also with Wi-Fi. Both are indoor condensing units listed for natural gas and propane, and both need a condensate drain and 120 V power, so neither makes hot water during an outage.

The published flow figures are not comparable at face value. Rinnai lists an 11.1 GPM (42 L/min) maximum domestic hot-water flow for the RXP199iN; Rheem lists 8.4 GPM for the SR84i. Neither manufacturer states the temperature rise behind the number on the product page, so both must be read against the flow-at-rise table in the installation manual for the winter rise Metro Vancouver actually sees, where incoming water can sit below 8 °C and a 49 °C shower is roughly a 40 °C rise. The larger Rinnai number does not by itself mean more usable winter hot water, and neither figure is a tank's first-hour rating.

Efficiency and connections separate them a little. Rinnai publishes UEF 0.98 against Rheem's UEF 0.96; both are high-draw-class ratings and the gap is directional, not a promised saving. Rinnai lists a 3/4 in gas connection, a 3/4 in cold inlet and hot outlet, a 1/2 in NPT condensate drain and PVC, CPVC or polypropylene venting; Rheem states 1/2 in gas line compatibility subject to local code, 2 in PVC venting to 70 ft or 3 in to 150 ft, flex venting through existing B-vent up to 50 ft, and manufactured-home approval. The Rinnai cabinet is 30.11 in high, 18.5 in wide, 11.4 in deep and 58 lb with the pump; Rheem does not publish IKONIC SR cabinet dimensions on the product page.

Warranty terms differ in labour. Rinnai's published residential warranty is 15 years on the heat exchanger with 5-year parts and labour when registered within 90 days. Rheem publishes 15 years on the IKONIC heat exchanger with registration (12 without), 5-year parts and 1-year labour. On both, recirculation shortens the wait at a distant tap and adds gas use; it does not make hot water instant. Whether CANRO supplies a given model and performs a gas tank-to-tankless conversion is confirmed at consultation.
