Hot-Water Recirculation for Rinnai water heaters
Recirculation shortens the wait at a distant tap by keeping hot water moving through a loop. It does not make hot water instant, and it adds gas or electrical use while it runs, which is why the design includes a timer or demand control rather than a pump that runs around the clock. Rinnai documents crossover-valve and dedicated-return configurations with their own filters and codes; Navien's platforms use an external pump or ComfortFlow-style setup.
The installation covers the pump, the return line or crossover valve, the control settings (including the parameter configuration tankless units need), insulation on the loop where it pays, and a walkthrough of the running schedule and the added operating cost.

Frequently asked questions
Is hot water instant with recirculation?
No. It is quicker at the tap, not instant, and it adds operating cost while the loop runs. A timer or demand control limits both.
Can my tankless unit support recirculation?
Most condensing units can, with an external pump or a built-in pump model (such as Rinnai's RXP), configured per the manual, including crossover-valve mode with its bypass filter.
