Rheem Professional Classic powered damper gas tank

The Rheem Professional Classic Powered Damper is a residential gas storage water heater that adds a 24 VAC flue damper to an atmospheric Category I design. Rheem states the damper closes the vent during standby to cut standby heat loss, and that the unit needs a 110 VAC outlet for the damper and control, supplied with a 9-foot cord and 3-prong plug. It vents through standard Category I double-wall B-vent in 3 inch pipe, with a 4 inch adaptor included.

Rheem's category page lists the family at 38 to 50 US gallon capacities and the product page lists the models PROG40S-36P CN67 PD (propane) and PROG40S-40N CN67 PD (natural gas). Rheem publishes .67 to .69 EF and lists the family as ENERGY STAR rated. The published performance is a first-hour rating of 72 to 84 gallons and a recovery rate of up to 40.4 gallons per hour at a 90 degrees F rise. The feature set includes the Guardian System air/fuel shut-off device that disables the heater when flammable vapour accumulates, a self-diagnostic electronic gas control, a low-NOx burner meeting 40 ng/J, an R-Tech resistored anode rod, an enhanced-flow brass drain valve and a factory temperature and pressure relief valve.

Rheem states the family is dual certified for potable water and space heating, is low-lead compliant and is certified for installation up to 10,100 ft above sea level, with the 50-gallon 50,000 BTU/h model certified to 5,999 ft.
