Rheem Professional Classic power vent gas tank

The Rheem Professional Classic power vent is a residential gas storage water heater that uses a blower to exhaust flue gases through PVC, ABS or CPVC pipe instead of a natural-draft chimney. Rheem publishes vent runs up to 100 equivalent feet with vertical or horizontal termination, which is what makes the family relevant where a water heater sits away from an existing flue or where a chimney cannot be used.

Rheem lists 40, 50 and 60 US gallon capacities with a first-hour rating of 71 to 104 gallons and recovery of 32.4 to 50.5 gallons per hour at a 90 degrees F rise. The published efficiency is 0.65 UEF, with the legacy 0.67 EF figure also shown; those are different metrics and WaterHeating.ca does not treat them as interchangeable. The family carries the Guardian System flammable-vapour shut-off device, an electronic gas control with self-diagnostics, a premium anode rod, an enhanced-flow brass drain valve and a factory temperature and pressure relief valve.

The power vent family is certified for installation up to 7,800 ft above sea level and Rheem states low-NOx models compliant with SCAQMD rule 1121 at 10 ng/J are available. Because it draws combustion air from the room it is not a sealed-combustion unit, so the installation manual's air-supply and clearance rules govern where it may be installed.
