GSW Envirosense power direct vent gas tank
The GSW Envirosense power direct vent is a high-efficiency condensing gas storage water heater with a spiral heat exchanger, published by GSW at 96% thermal efficiency and ENERGY STAR qualification with 50 or 75 USG capacity, an AiQ adaptive gas valve, a leak detection module and a powered anode.

- Energy
- GSW publishes the Envirosense power direct vent as a gas water heater. The model-level energy source is confirmed from its rating plate and the linked spec sheet.
- Venting
- Condensing power direct vent. GSW states the unit can be vented as a power direct vent or as a power vent heater, so the vent route is flexible; the installation manual sets the permitted materials and lengths. As a condensing design it produces condensate and needs a drain.

GSW states 96% thermal efficiency and ENERGY STAR qualification for the Envirosense power direct vent. That is a thermal-efficiency figure, not a UEF value; the two metrics are not interchangeable.
About the Envirosense power direct vent gas tank
The GSW Envirosense power direct vent is GSW's premium condensing storage tank. GSW states it is a high-efficiency condensing gas water heater with a spiral heat exchanger that helps keep hot combustion gases in the tank longer, which the manufacturer says means the water heats up faster. GSW describes it as ideal for larger homes with multiple bathrooms or luxury appliances such as whirlpool tubs, and lists it as ENERGY STAR qualified with a 96% thermal efficiency.
The published control and protection features include an AiQ adaptive gas valve that GSW states allows the gas valve to adjust to fuel type, quality and any abnormalities; a leak detection module that comes standard on all models; a touch screen with a menu providing precise temperature control, operating information, diagnostics and performance history; and a powered anode that comes standard on all models. Commercial-grade glass lining protects all water-side tank surfaces plus the inside of the internal heat exchanger, and the unit is available in 50 USG and 75 USG capacities.
Venting is flexible, and GSW states the unit can be installed as a power direct vent or a power vent heater. Hot and cold side taps allow combination systems for water heating plus space heating, radiant floor heating or other applications that need a recirculating hot-water loop, which this site covers on its recirculation and component pages. WaterHeating.ca records the efficiency as a thermal-efficiency figure and does not convert it to a UEF. The line is documented at family level because per-model inputs and capacities sit in the linked Canadian spec sheets for the 300/301 and 400/401 series, which are the source used before any model row is published. Whether CANRO supplies the Envirosense power direct vent for a project is confirmed at consultation.

Frequently asked questions
What efficiency is the GSW Envirosense power direct vent?
GSW states 96% thermal efficiency and ENERGY STAR qualification. That is a thermal-efficiency figure, not a UEF, and WaterHeating.ca does not present the two as interchangeable.
What sizes is the GSW Envirosense power direct vent available in?
GSW states it is available in 50 USG and 75 USG capacities. The linked spec sheets for the 300/301 and 400/401 series are the source for per-model inputs and capacities.
Does the GSW Envirosense power direct vent need a drain?
Yes. It is a condensing unit, so it produces condensate and needs a condensate drain. GSW states it can be vented as a power direct vent or a power vent heater.
