Mixing Valve Installation for Bradford White water heaters

BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C while storage is commonly kept at 60 °C; the thermostatic mixing valve reconciles the two. Some models ship with a valve fitted (Bradford White lists ASSE valves with its RG255H6N and RG1PV55H6N), and where one is added in the field it must be an ASSE-listed valve set and tested with the tank and fixture temperatures measured together.

The service supplies and installs the valve on the hot-water supply, verifies the setting at the fixtures, and checks the tank temperature, so the result is a measured 49 °C delivery rather than a guess at the dial.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a mixing valve?

When the tank stores at 60 °C and fixtures are limited to 49 °C, yes. Electric storage thermostats are set at 60 °C by code, which makes the valve the standard safety measure.

What if my valve fails?

A valve that can pass full storage temperature needs immediate attention: it is replaced and the delivery re-verified before use.
