A. O. Smith Canada publishes the Vertex Power Vent as a high-efficiency condensing gas storage water heater for homes where a chimney is not available. A blower forces the exhaust outside, and the manufacturer states the design vents up to 125 equivalent feet using ULC S636 PVC, CPVC or polypropylene pipe. Because it is fully condensing, it produces condensate and needs a drain.

The published performance figures are ENERGY STAR qualification with 94% thermal efficiency, and a fully condensing design that A. O. Smith Canada publishes at 96 gallons per hour at a 90°F temperature rise. Thermal efficiency is a different measure from UEF and is not a savings percentage. The manufacturer also lists a Blue Diamond glass coating, which it describes as providing superior corrosion resistance compared to industry-standard glass lining, and side water connections for recirculating systems.
